Sr. Accountant, Payroll & Benefits

 

About the Role 

Responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate recording of payroll general ledger activity. Perform balance sheet reconciliations and analysis related to payroll and benefits accounts. Work is performed under limited supervision. Direct report to the Sr. Director, Financial Operations.

You Will 

  • Record and reconcile payroll-related journal entries, ensuring accuracy and adherence to Accounting policies and procedures
  • Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities for payroll accounts
  • Collaborate with the payroll team to gather necessary information and resolve any discrepancies in the payroll general ledger
  • Record and reconcile benefits-related journal entries, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits programs
  • Review and analyze benefits expense accounts to ensure accuracy and proper allocation of expenses
  • Work closely with the benefits team to obtain necessary data and resolve any discrepancies or issues related to the benefits general ledger
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner in collaboration with relevant stakeholders
  • Assist with internal and external audits; provide necessary documentation and explanations related to payroll and benefits accounts
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting policies, procedures, and regulations that govern payroll and benefits

About You 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a Senior General Ledger Accountant
  • Advanced knowledge of federal and state laws, rules and regulations that govern payroll and benefits
  • Advanced knowledge of general ledger accounting principles and practices, specifically as relates to payroll and benefits
  • Advanced skill in the use of accounting software
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of balance sheet reconciliations and the ability to perform detailed analysis
  • Advanced skill in the use of Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Advanced verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
